What do Allied Health Assistants do?
Allied Health Assistants, also known as therapy assistants and AHA’s, are healthcare professionals who work under the supervision and guidance of our Occupational Therapists, Early Childhood Teachers and Physiotherapists to provide support to children.
Our AHA’s receive ongoing training and supervision from our therapists to ensure that the work they do is of high quality and adheres to professional standards. The role of our Allied Health Assistant’s is versatile and you will see them in group programs, community settings as well as in our clinic in a one to one setting. Your therapist will make a plan on how to achieve your therapy goals and our AHA will support you in implementing these strategies in the home, the clinic, at school and/or at kindergarten. Our AHA’s work with children of all ages, from infants to adolescents, and play an important role in helping children achieve their goals and reach their full potential.
Benefits of Using Allied Health Assistants:
- Cost-Effective: More bang for your buck!!! AHAs are more cost-effective than sessions with an Allied Health Professional. This is because therapy assistants typically have lower hourly rates and may be able to provide a higher frequency of support.
- Shorter Waiting Periods: AHA’s are often able to see clients more quickly than fully qualified therapists. This means that families can receive support sooner and begin their therapy journey at a key time in their child’s development.
- Targeted Treatment Plans: Allied Health Assistants work under the guidance of fully qualified therapists and can provide targeted sessions that are tailored to the specific needs of the child for producing efficient outcomes.
- Program Flexibility: The nature of our AHA programs is to support daily living skills where your child learns best; meaning we have flexibility to see clients before, during or after school hours.
- Detailed progress notes after every session: Our AHA’s take progress notes after every session to ensure that the child’s progress is tracked and that any necessary adjustments to the therapy plan can be made by the treating therapist. This can help to ensure that the child is progressing and receiving the most appropriate therapeutic support.
All of our Allied Health Assistants have a passion for working with children to help them have fun while reaching their full potential. Each AHA receives additional specific training and supervision from the therapists they work with to ensure that the highest quality of therapy is provided to our clients.
